18.2. Lens is dirtyTry the following if you notice dirt on or in the lens1. Clean the lensAfter using a blower to remove dust or lint from the lens surface, gently wipe the lens with a lens cleaning cloth*. Wiping the lens without first removing dust or lint could scratch the lens surface.* Lens cleaning cloth: A cloth used to remove dust or lint from the camera and lens.2. Check for dirt inside the lensRemoving dirt from inside the lens requires disassembling it to clean or replace the affected parts. To avoid damage to the lens, this should be done by Nikon-authorized service personnel. If you are bothered by the presence of dirt inside the lens, consult a Nikon-authorized service representative.3. Check for moldDepending on where and how the lens is stored, mold may form black spots or webs on or inside the lens.
