Battery will not charge inside COOLPIX camera

The rechargeable battery used in some COOLPIX cameras can be charged while it is inserted in the camera. The power to charge the battery is supplied from a PC via USB lead or from a battery charger. When the battery is inserted in the camera and is being charged, check the small green charge lamp on the camera (indicated with a charge/flash symbol).

  • Flashing on /off - indicates the battery is charging, there is no problem.

  • Constantly on - indicates the battery is fully charged, there is no problem.

  • Completely off - indicates the battery is not charging.

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure you are using an authentic Nikon battery.

  2. Check that power is being provided from the PC or mains power supply.

  3. Check the USB cable is inserted correctly at both ends by removing and re-attaching it.

  4. Check that 'On' is selected in the camera Setup menu > Charge by computer.

  5. Remove the memory card from the camera and then charge the battery again before re-inserting the memory card.

  6. Try using a spare battery or USB lead to try to isolate the problem.
