What is the correct way to attach a strap to my Nikon camera?

The best way to attach a camera strap is so the ends of the strap are tucked inside and hidden, rather than sticking out.

First, flatten out the strap and divide by two, so both ends are the same length and not twisted. You can adjust the lengths later if necessary, but it's best to start somewhere close to even. Be sure the buckles are facing outward, and the plastic retainer clips are fitted onto the strap under the buckle.

Tip: Allow enough slack to work with the strap, too little and this becomes a little difficult.

1. With any lettering on the strap facing outward, and the buckle in the correct orientation as in image 1, pass the end of the strap through the camera eyelet, and back through the retainer clip.

2. Take up enough slack to: a.create a loop in the buckle. Feed the strap end inside the loop (image 2), through the top half of the buckle and under the top half of the loop, and return back through the bottom half of the buckle (image 3) on top of the bottom half of the loop, leaving about 6cm of slack.

3. Now adjust and pull tight (image 4).

Repeat for the other side. Be sure not to twist the strap, so that the same but opposite result will appear on the other end. If you did this correctly, the strap will be even on both sides. To finish, slide the plastic retainer clips down to the eyelets. After a while, the strap will stretch and flatten out a little.
