The Wireless Mobile Utility app (WMU) connects your smart device to selected Nikon digital cameras wirelessly (via Wi-Fi), letting you download photos, take pictures remotely, and share them via e-mail or upload to social networking sites. The WMU is compatible with the cameras listed in the tables below, cameras released later than those models are compatible with SnapBridge app which superseded the WMU in Spring 2016. Cameras which are compatible with WMU are not compatible with SnapBridge and visa-versa.
Camera connection to the Wireless Mobile Utility via Wi-Fi
Earlier camera models were made compatible with WMU using one of the optional Wireless Adapters WU-1a or WU-1b, The difference between the two adapters is the type of USB connector used to physically connect to the camera (see below). Later camera models used built-in Wi-Fi so didn't need the wireless adapter.

You can download the app from Google Play service (Android) or App Store (Apple) on the smart device by searching for "Wireless Mobile Utility". Read the app description and check compatibility before installing.
Connection via Wi-Fi wireless networks is straightforward however instructions vary according to the camera and smart device used. Firstly use the instructions in the camera user's manual and if you need further help use the manuals for the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility or smart device as required.
